Dear Colleagues –
Anyone seen this as yet (please see link; the DOW lab safety academy)? Sounds very similar, & it’s not bad… May be a convenient place to start…
Best regards,
Frank

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Subject Matter Experts Needed
All:
CHAS is developing for the ACS a series of web-based modules addressing various aspects of laboratory safety. The ultimate work product will be aimed at students and will provide a “Certificate in Laboratory Safety” which will tell prospective employers
that the student has mastered the basic concepts of lab safety. Each module will combine specific content with videos as appropriate. Successful completion of a subject matter test at the end of each module will allow the student to work through to completion
and the certificate.
The current list of modules is:
1. Introduction (Being developed by Russ Phifer)
2. Chemical & Physical hazards
3. Regulatory considerations
4. Hazard Assessments/Risk Assessments
5. Engineering controls / ventilation
6. Chemical Reactivity Hazards and Process Scale-up (This is developed; reviewers needed)
7. Toxicology
8. Personal protective equipment (PPE)
9. Safety culture
10. Waste management
11. Emergency response
The basic working document, from which each module will be developed is a POWERPOINT file.
We are looking for CHAS volunteers to assume ownership of one (or more) modules and develop the content. The developer could be one person or a small team. We will provide a template within which to work and will assist as needed.
We are also looking for Peer Reviewers to take the PowerPoint file and evaluate it.
Our timeline is to begin development of the modules in the next two months and have each completed and in the hands of the reviewers within 60 days or so of beginning. The reviewers will have 30 days to review and return comments.
So, for all of you who have wanted to work on a CHAS project, and for all of you who have some incredible skills and knowledge, this is your chance for glory!
Send me an email, on or off the list. Tell me what module(s) you are interested in and what role you would like. Russ Phifer and I will be coordinating the effort.
Thanks and I look forward to your offers to help – and of course, to your questions.
