Everyone and especially Neal and Harry,

This came to me from one of the other hats I wear as a voting representative of the Revision Committe for the International Safety Equipment Association which is a Standards developing organization that feeds into ANSI/ISEA Standards.

As you will see below, the ANSI/ISEA 113 Standard on Emergency Showers and Eyewashes is now open for public comment. Anyone who is interested should contact Cristine Fargo at ISEA (her email address is below). This is not the Z358.1 Standard for industrial Emergency Showers and Eyewashes, which is also in the revision process and I am on that committee as well and if members of our group were willing to review it I can send it around when our committee is done.

This is a consensus standard, and deals mainly with field-deployable emergency showers and eyewash facilities and those that might be associated with hospital Emergency Departments.

Our group is uniquely situated to give valuable input.

Alan:

If you would like (and it would be greatly appreciated), you can use the following to post to the list serv. I am particularly interested in securing participants for the 113 consensus review. If you could send me a copy of the posting, that would be great too. Thanks.

ISEA is seeking consensus panel participants for review of revised ANSI/ISEA 113 standard on decontamination showers.

The voluntary consensus standard, ANSI/ISEA 113-2008 American National Standard for Fixed and Portable Decontamination Shower Units is scheduled to be revised in 2013. The standard provides uniform minimum requirements for the performance, use, maintenance and training for these devices used by first responders and receiving medical facilities who administer initial decontamination to victims after exposure to contaminants.

As part of the development process, standards prepared by ISEA product groups become American National Standards through a consensus process that involves reviewers outside the association. These reviewers submit comments and vote on the approval of the standard. They serve as the final authority in determining whether a standard is submitted to ANSI for acceptance as an American National Standard.

ISEA maintains a list of participants, balanced by interest category, for each standard. A reviewer may fall into one of four categories: producer, user, government or general interest.

Consensus review of the proposed update is expected to begin in March 2013. If you are interested in serving as a consensus panel member for this document, email Cristine Fargo at ISEA, cfargo**At_Symbol_Here**safetyequipment.org
