One Class D unit is a very good idea. Even if flammable metals or pyrophorics are not in use currently, they could be 2-3 years down the road, and this way you'd be ready.
"Eyewash stations". Plumbed in, yes. Bottled kits or mounted on the regular faucet, no. There are all kinds of different designs you can go with around a sink - see
http://www.safetyemporium.com/ILPI_Site/WebPagesUS/safety/eyewash.htm for examples (Disclaimer; my company web site), I like the automatic swing-down and swing away models. "Each sink" is probably overkill.
You will also want to think about Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) with respect to eyewashes ("barrier free" models) as well as the lab/bench design itself.
Even in this age of mobile technology, consider a landline telephone for emergencies.
Layout is important - make sure safety equipment is not obstructed or likely to be obstructed.
Security is safety consideration, too.
Gas cylinder racking.
Barret mentioned breakers that were not labeled - ouch, that's a code requirement that the electrical inspector should have caught; makes you wonder what else he missed.
