LAHORE: At least 24 people were killed and several sustained injuries when a fire broke out at a shoe factory in Lahore, Express News reported on Tuesday.
More than 12 fire brigades have reached the spot and are busy trying to extinguish the fire, as around five to ten people might be trapped in the building.
The injured have been shifted to a local hospital. Two of them are in a critical condition.
The two-storey building was constructed for residential purposes however, was being used commercially. The factory employed more than 100 people who worked in different shifts but had only one entry and exit point.
The fire broke out in a generator and reached 15 chemical drums through wires.
The cars which were parked outside the building have also been burnt.

A dozen Richmond residents, most donning shirts that read ÔClean Air for All,' rode a bus to the Bay Area Air Quality Management District office this morning to hear from the various agencies investigating the Aug. 6 Chevron refinery fire.
Spectators filled the chairs and lined the wall of the quiet, wood-paneled room as each organization Ñ including representatives from BAAQMD, the Environmental Protection Agency, Contra Costa Health Services, the U.S. Chemical Safety Board, and California Air Resources Board Ñ tried to define its role in the emergency refinery incident.
The agencies also acknowledged shortcomings, especially lack of communication, both with residents and within the various agencies, and difficulties in monitoring air pollutants.
"Clearly we are going to need to do a better job of communicating with the public," said Eric Stephenson, BAAQMD's director of technical services. "We were just trying to communicate with the public what we knew at the time, and it clearly fell short."
Randall Sawyer, a hazardous materials programs director with Contra Costa Health Services, laid out each time they sounded an alarm on Aug. 6Ñeight times in a five hour time periodÑalong with the agency's protocol to warn the public.

Kenneth Dodd has lived near Winnifred Drive for almost three decades, and says never before has he seen the remnants of a meth lab explosion.
Dodd adds, "Never had to deal with anything like this before."
Around three Tuesday morning, Fort Oglethorpe Police say they got a call from a local hospital saying Barry Cook, 37, was there with suspicious looking burns all over his body.
Lieutenant Steve Blevins, with the Fort Oglethorpe Police Department, says, "Officers that had initially responded detected an odor that we associate with methamphetamine manufacturing. It's a heavy chemical smell."

WOMAN INJURED BY MAIDSTONE SHOP CHEMICAL SPILL

A woman has been taken to hospital and a building was evacuated following a chemical spill at a shop in north Kent.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the woman was injured after 500ml (17.6fl oz) of hydrochloric acid was spilt in Gabriels Hill, Maidstone on Monday.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus cleaned up the spillage and ventilated the building.
A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said the woman was taken to hospital for treatment for burns.

Sept. 3: At 11:56 p.m., an inhalation subject was reported on the 1200 block of Poplar Ave. in Arbutus. Crews from AVFD responded to find a person experiencing trouble breathing as a result of mixing household chemicals. One seriously ill person was taken to a local hospital.

LAB EXPLOSION INJURES TEACHER

A high school teacher was injured in an explosion Monday in Dane County. Stoughton Schools Superintendent Tim Onsager said a teacher injured in a lab suffered burns to the palm of her hand and has been taken to a hospital. Onsager said the teacher was conducting a routine experiment, showing students a chemical reaction, when there was a quick flash of fire. The veteran teacher was adding a very small amount of black powder to a beaker and a spark ignited.
A significant amount of smoke filled the classroom, where there were about 25 students. Onsager said some of them were coughing or had headaches and were exhibiting signs of smoke inhalation.
As precaution, all students who were in the class were taken to Stoughton Hospital. All are expected to be okay. The school contacted all parents and guardians of the students in the classroom.
School officials elected not to call in a Haz-Mat team. All other classrooms in the school are conducting class as normal. Stoughton is about 20 miles southeast of downtown Madison.

ELK GROVE, CA - Two Elk Grove middle school students were hurt Monday when a science experiment went awry.
Liz Graswich, spokeswoman for the Elk Grove Unified School District, said the kids were in a Joseph Kerr Middle School science class being held at a nearby park. Upon preliminary investigation, chlorine tablets and rubbing alcohol may have been combined and the resulting chemical reaction caused a small explosion.
According to Graswich, the students suffered injuries which she described as similar to a first-degree sunburn. One student was transported to a hospital at the parent's request and the other went home with a parent, Graswich said.
The mishap occurred at approximately 2 p.m.
The district will conduct an investigation to determine if curriculum standards were being followed, Graswich said.
