Ben Hill county drug agents say they made a big dent in a growing methamphetamine problem when they raided a meth lab Monday night.
They arrested a suspected meth cook at an auto transmission shop but it's not the first time agents have seen this. Just a few months ago, they busted an even larger meth lab inside of a transmission shop across town.
Lately, meth has made a big comeback. In fact, drug agents are seeing more meth right now than cocaine. They say its because a number of meth cooks have gotten out of prison and many have returned to their old habits

The Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office is investigating a "shake and bake" meth lab explosion at a condominium on Okaloosa Island.
Firefighters responded to Island Princess Condos at 520 Santa Rosa Boulevard around 6 a.m. Friday morning. Law enforcement officials were notified to respond after it was determined that the fire appeared to have been caused by an explosion involving a make-shift meth lab in a condo on the 5th floor.
The method called "shake and bake" is used to make meth in a soda bottle with crushed cold pills and household chemicals. It is extremely volatile with the potential for serious or deadly toxicity or explosions.
No occupants were on the scene when emergency responders arrived and no injuries have been reported at this time.

A Harvard Medical School building was evacuated this afternoon after chemicals spilled on the 10th floor, the Boston Fire Department said.
Steve MacDonald, a Fire Department spokesman, said three two-liter bottles containing acetic and hydrochloric acid broke and the substances spilled about 3 p.m. inside a lab at the building at 77 Avenue Louis Pasteur in Boston.
MacDonald said the spill was contained to the 10th floor, and no one was injured. A doctor who was in the area of the spill was wearing the proper protective gear and followed procedure for self-decontamination, MacDonald said.
She was allowed to go home after paramedics examined her at the scene, he said. There were no injuries.
MacDonald said at the scene at about 5 p.m. that a hazardous materials cleanup team was en route and it was not clear when the building would reopen.
"My experiment's ruined," said Russell Griffin, 28, a research technician who was working on the 6th floor when the spill occurred.
MacDonald said both acetic and hydrochloric acids are irritants and can cause burns, and that acetic acid is flammable.

carbon monoxide gas caused sent two workers to Shock Trauma from an annex building in the main post office complex on East Fayette Street.
City fire and EMS crews were sent to the post office around 8:30 and found high levels of the gas in a part of the complex that only houses postal workers.
Kevin Cartwright of the fire department said that the main customer service area was not affected.
he generator was being used to power the annex building because of a local power failure and the fumes got into the work area.
58 people were treated by paramedics.

SALT LAKE CITY Ñ Firefighters closed part of Redwood Road and California Ave. Tuesday evening after witnesses reported a cloud of unknown substance with an ammonia odor.
At about 9 p.m. 30 people at Sapp Brothers, a truck stop on Redwood Road, reported seeing a cloud and smelling ammonia. Hazmat crews were called to the area and saw a plume about three feet from the ground that quickly started to dissipate.
Hazmat's air monitoring detected there was no toxic gases.
Firefighters checked with Thatcher Chemical and found the cloud came from a normal process of cleaning their air scrubbers. The process apparently releases water vapor that sometimes forms a cloud.

Three firefighters are in the hospital after a garage fire in West Bradford Township.
The fire broke out around 6:30 p.m. at the home of an unemployed chemist on the 1300 block of Westminster Drive, according to investigators. While firefighters were able to place it under control in about 90 minutes, hazmat crews were called to the scene after officials say they discovered chemicals inside the garage.
Three firefighters were sent to the hospital and are being evaluated. Officials have not yet revealed if they were hospitalized due to the fire or the chemicals. Smoke plumes are still exiting the garage, according to investigators. Nearby residents are being asked to stay in their homes due to the chemicals.

POSSIBLE GAS LINE EXPLOSION IN TENNESSE

A possible gas line explosion has been reported just outside of Summertown on State Highway 20, according to Lawrence County Sheriff Jimmy Brown.
Officials from the Tennessee Highway Patrol were called to the scene to assist crews from the Lawrence Fire Department. Crews from the Maury County Hazmat team have also been called to the scene.Witnesses reported that a vehicle struck a 42 inch natural gas transmission line and caused the explosion and fire.
As a precaution, residents near the accident were being evacuated. Summertown Baptist Church was being used as an evacuation center.
Preliminary information from THP officials indicated that a vehicle hit a gas line, causing it to rupture then explode. Officials said that crews from the local gas company were called to the scene to shut down the lin

Local emergency response experts Tuesday issued a list of safety tips in the wake of an oil refinery fire that triggered a health and safety scare across California's Bay Area Monday night.
A fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond, Calif., Monday sent thick black smoke laced with toxic chemicals across the Bay Area, prompting a shelter-in-place order for thousands of area residents. Locals were told to stay indoors with windows and doors tightly secured and to turn off air-conditioners and heaters. The incident led officials with the American Red Cross of Southeastern Pennsylvania to highlight existing tips Tuesday to prepare local residents for the potential of a similar alert close to home. The tips include many of the same instructions given to residents near the refinery fire in California. Shelter-in-place orders are issued in response to incidents that release chemical, biological, or radiological contaminants into the atmosphere, according to the Red Cross. In such incidents most information is relayed by authorities through media broadcasts, so it is important to have a reliable radio or television running to receive updated information as it is relea!

KARACHI: A fire erupted in a chemical factory in the SITE Area near Shershah, collapsing the roof of the warehouse, here on Wednesday.
According to the fire brigade official, all fire tenders, water browsers and snorkels from the city rushed to the scene of the incident and extinguished the fire.
The roof of the warehouse of the factory also caved in. However, workers of the factory remained unharmed.

AUGUSTA, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- Since November of last year, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency has responded to 14 meth labs in Maine. In the previous year they raided only one.
"We remain vigilant, and so when we do see an increase, as we have seen in the past 9 months, we are concerned about that trend," stated MDEA Director, Roy McKinney.
"Predominately, we are seeing it in Aroostook County, and we attribute that to the fact that there is an established meth user group up there, because for a number of years we have had methamphetamine tablets smuggled in from Canada into Aroostook County," said McKinney, adding that the drug has been found in all corners of the state.

JERSEY CITY POLICE USE FORCE TO GET MAN AT FLEA-INFESTED HOUSE DECONTAMINATED

Jersey City police had to forcibly place a man in chair with wheels this evening to roll him into a decontamination unit that had been set up outside a flea-infested house on Pamrapo Avenue.
After repeatedly asking the man to go into the decontamination tent and him refusing, four Emergency Service Unit officers grabbed the man by his arms and he finally complied.
The man was wheeled into the tent, stripped, and decontaminated.
The woman who lives at the house willingly complied.

A fire engulfed part of a Chevron oil refinery in Richmond Monday evening, sending large plumes of smoke and chemical fumes into surrounding residential areas. Large plumes of dark smoke with a pungent smell of chemicals hovered over Richmond at sunset, as fire sirens wailed and streets were cleared.
At a press conference held Monday night, Richmond Refinery General Manager Nigel Hearne told journalists that firefighters were still fighting the blaze at the plant, and that a small leak in the diesel processing unit had grown and caught fire. According to Chevron spokesperson Melissa Ritchie, the fire started at Richmond Refinery's No. 4 Crude Unit. Hearne said had grown and caused the explosion at 6:15 pm.
Hearne said fighters and engineers at the plant were using nitrogen to push fuel through the pipes, and warned that the fire could burn all night.
As fire sirens wailed over one of the refinery's cafeterias, in which a press conference was hastily arranged, Hearne offered an apology to the thousands of Richmond residents who had been forced indoors as a result of the smoke from the fire. Earlier in the evening, the Contra Costa County Health Services Department had issued a shelter in place warning for Richmond residents, advising that residents remain inside, shut windows and doors, make sure vents are closed, turn off ventilating and air conditioning, and bring pets indoors.

Union Gap, WASH.--The City of Union Gap quickly responded to a hazardous materials incident Saturday night.
Around 10 p.m. a call came in that a strange odor was coming from Colombia Valley Fruits.
The City Administrator said a pressurized pipeline was allowing ammonia to escape. They immediately shut down surrounding roads and asked two homeowners to evacuate.
"We were very aware of it," said City Administrator Chris Jensen. "We responded quickly. The facility itself responded quickly, and we were able to mitigate it without any further incident, which is good."
The city called in a regional team to help secure the leak, which was fixed around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Contractors will be evaluating the system to determine what happened and how to prevent it from ever happening again.

A train headed for Montana derailed Sunday afternoon.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe says around 2:45 M.T. fifteen cars veered off a railroad track. Fourteen of them were carrying denatured alcohol, which is used as a fuel additive. The other was carrying cardboard.
Eight cars caught fire and are continuing to burn. BNSF authorities say the fire does not pose an environmental threat. Local hazmat responders are on the scene.
BNSF employees are assessing if they can rerail some of the cars. BNSF says about eight to ten cars operate on the track every day. The company estimates it`ll take about three weeks to remove all the wreckage.

All northbound lanes of Interstate 5 coming into Seattle were closed Wednesday afternoon due to a hazardous substance spill.
The freeway was closed around 1:30 p.m. ahead of the South Holgate Street/Interstate 90 exit, after a tanker truck carrying sodium borohydride, used to bleach wood products, spilled some of its load onto the highway.
Traffic was halted on the northbound lanes for nearly two hours. By late Wednesday afternoon, traffic was moving again, but several lanes remained closed.
Seattle Fire officials initially thought that about 50 gallons of the substance had spilled over a 1,500 yards; however, they later said the spill was only two gallons.
