GRAND CHUTE, WI (WTAQ) - Two lanes of northbound Highway 41 in Grand Chute closed Saturday due to a Hazmat spill.
Fire crews responded to the scene for the flammable liquid spill at 8:30 a.m.
Officials say a semi trailer had a leak inside while driving just south of College Avenue. The Northeast Regional Hazmat Team was called to the area of the incident.
According to crews, about 200 gallons of Methyl Pyrrolidinone, which is combustible and an irritant, were leaked.
There have been reports of the liquid being sprayed onto vehicles while the truck was driving down the highway from Oshkosh. If your vehicle was sprayed, you should wear long sleeves, rubber gloves and safety glasses and wash your vehicle with water and liquid Tide.

MANASSAS, Va. --
Fire and rescue officials spent 15 hours burning off propane from a cylinder leak in Bull Run on Monday, authorities said.
Officials arrived in the 10800 block of Balls Ford Road at 12:30 p.m. and found an 80-pound propane cylinder in a recreation vehicle leaking the substance, Prince William fire and rescue spokeswoman Kim Hylander said.
The Hazmat crew was called in. Hylander said they set up an isolation zone and determined the safest way to mitigate the leak was to burn the gas using specialized equipment.
"Flaring, or Ôburning off' propane is a quick and safe way to evacuate tanks through the use of a flare stand or propane torch without venting raw propane into the atmosphere," Hylander said.

The Hamilton fire department has sent six people to hospital after cylinders containing phosphine gas sprung a leak at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at a customs warehouse at 400 Grays Rd.
The leak caused a small fire that broke out in the warehouse. Fire Safety Officer Dave Christopher said the fire had "self-extinguished" by the time the fire department arrived.
The four firefighters and two employees were sent to hospital after completing a decontamination process conducted by a Hazmat team on the scene.
Christopher told the Spectator that sending the six people to hospital was just a precautionary measure.
The two male employees are believed to be the two who called in the fire initially.
The building was evacuated as a safety precaution later around 9 a.m.
The cylinders belong to Cytec Canada Inc. which produced phosphine and phosphine-based products used for mining and solvent extraction applications and UV photo initiators.
The company has been notified and is sending a team down from the company's Welland plant in Niagara Falls to inspect the cylinders.
Hazmat teams were on the scene to inspect the building in the morning. There were no foul odors when the team arrived and the building was declared a code green.

Sofia. Bulgaria's Chief Directorate for Fight with Organized Crime has uncovered an arsenal of very dangerous chemical and explosive substances. The operation started in the northern village of Dermantsi, district of Lovech, and continues in Sofia's residential district of Krasna Polyana, announced the press center of the Interior Ministry.
On Tuesday at about 3:10 a.m. local time a fire broke out in a farming building in the village of Dermantsi. The property is owned by a 76-year-old person. It was established that inflammable and explosive chemical substances were stored in the building where the fire started.
The substances, which exploded, were left in the building by the property owner's 40-year-old son. He was detained and said he was keeping an unidentified amount of highly reactive chemical substances and explosives, weapons and munitions in his apartment in Sofia's residential district of Krasna Polyana and basement.

Indianapolis police are questioning a woman believed to have brought chemicals inside the IUPUI main library.
Staff called police after they said a 32-year-old woman walked into the library at about 1:30 this afternoon and started mixing two plastic bottles filled with chemicals.
IUPUI spokesman Richard Schneider said the woman has no relationship with the university. He said officials noticed a smell on her similar to that of gasoline and escorted her from the library. As they were leaving, the Haz-Mat response team pulled the fire alarm to evacuate the building.
The building reopened at 3:30. Schneider said there were no injuries or damage, but officials did send a bomb team and dog inside to check for evidence. The team confiscated the two bottles, and an arson investigator is holding the woman for questioning.

A fire at a St. Albans chemical distribution facility appears to be under control, Kanawha County emergency officials said late this morning.
Sprinklers at the Brenntag operation on 1st Street contained the blaze, and crews were ventilating the building before entering to further investigate, said Dale Petry, Kanawha County's emergency services coordinator.
Calls to emergency officials shortly after 10:30 a.m. reported a fire in a warehouse storage area containing 60 to 70 drums of flammable materials, Petry said.
Petry said that the barrels were believed to contain alcohol-based products, but the exact contents of the storage room were not immediately available.

A CHEMICAL waste spill in Heathfield has sparked a warning about the kind of materials that can be dumped at household waste recycling sites.
Uckfield firefighters are warning people to think very carefully about what they take to the tip.
This follows a chemical incident at the Heathfield site, Burwash Road on June 11 which closed the area to the public for nearly two hours.
The alarm was raised by staff at the tip after they noticed that something had started smoking in one of the rubble containers. Two crews from Uckfield Community Fire Station were sent to the incident at 3.57pm.
Watch Commander Ian Ritchie said: "The site was immediately evacuated and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service was called in, along with a hazardous materials and environmental protection officer (HMEPO) to help identify the mysterious white powdery substance. The State Law Enforcement Division has removed explosive materials carried by a tractor trailer that crashed on a rural Newberry County road Tuesday afternoon.
The SLED team removed blasting caps from an Austin Powder truck that overturned on U.S. 76 near Kinards about 12:30 p.m. State Department of Health and of Environmental Control and Newberry County deputies and firefighters also responded to the wreck.
The truck, which was also the caps and other chemicals for use in quarry operations, ran off the road and overturned near a cornfield, spilling diesel fuel and ammonium nitrate, Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster. Ammonium nitrate is commonly used in fertilizers, but has the potential to cause an explosion when exposed to an ingition source like a blasting cap, Foster said.

SHENYANG, June 12 (Xinhua) -- An chemical plant in northeast China's Liaoning province exploded Tuesday afternoon, local fire department said.
The explosion occurred at 4:30 p.m. at the Wangjiao Chemical Plant in the Yuhong district of the provincial capital of Shenyang, shattering windows at a distance of 200 meters and resulting in a fire and massive cloud of smoke, witnesses said.
A total of 135 firefighters have been dispatched to extinguish the blaze. The fire department said chemical materials in the plant's storeroom were ignited, adding that the fire is under control.

INGLEWOOD (CBS) Ñ A worker at a hazardous materials sorting facility in Inglewood had to be hospitalized Monday when a canister released an unknown material that had dozens of people complaining of eye irritation.
Firefighters were called to the facility at 425 Isis Avenue shortly before 2 p.m., according to Inspector Brian Riley of the county fire department.
A fire extinguisher reportedly fell on a military-type canister, releasing an unknown material.
The worker was hospitalized in unknown condition, Riley said.
About 27 other people in the immediate area were treated at the scene for complaints of nausea and eye irritation, he said.

A FACILITY designed to reduce the risk of major chemical incidents has been launched in Cardiff
The new International Training Centre (ITC) has been officially opened at Cardiff Metropolitan University in a joint venture with the Health Protection Agency, Public Health Wales and World Health Organisation.
The first training facility of its kind and unique to Wales, work at the centre will focus on enhancing planning for major incidents.
It will include everything from hazard identification to risk assessment and prioritisation, risk mitigation, emergency planning and response and recovery.
The official launch attracted delegates from across the world and it is hoped the facility will showcase Wales as a beacon of excellence for health protection teaching and training.

3 HOSPITALIZED AFTER LA TEACHER'S CHEMISTRY ERROR

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Officials say a Los Angeles high school was evacuated and three people were taken to the hospital after a teacher mixed up her acids in a classroom chemistry experiment.
Los Angeles fire spokesman Brian Humphrey says the incident began Monday afternoon when an instructor apparently mistook sulfuric acid for nitric acid at East Valley High School in North Hollywood.
Humphrey says a 16-year-old male student and two women in their 30s were taken to hospitals with minor complaints from chemical exposure. One of the women was the teacher. It was unclear who the other woman was. No names were released.
Paramedics examined about a dozen other students from the class, which gathered in the school gym after they evacuated.
The rest of the school evacuated classrooms for the football field.

Investigators with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission on Monday recommended that a natural gas utility be ordered to pay a $386,000 fine and take a series of corrective measures following an explosion in Allentown that killed five people.
PUC investigators said following a 16-month investigation that Reading-based UGI Utilities Inc. failed to heed warning signs about the integrity of its 80-year-old cast-iron mains and then, after the explosion, failed to follow its own emergency protocols.
The company can challenge the investigatory findings and recommendations before an administrative law judge and said it "looks forward to the opportunity to present its position in the appropriate forum."
The Feb. 9, 2011 explosion destroyed eight homes and triggered a raging fire. The PUC complaint traced the source of the gas that led to the explosion to a cracked, corroded 12-inch cast-iron main installed in 1928. The complaint said that UGI did not respond to "ample warning signs" about the pipe's integrity and has not moved quickly enough to replace Allentown's decades-old network of cast-iron gas pipelines despite two earlier deadly explosions, in 1976 and 1990

WILTON Ñ A chemical reaction during an oil tank remediation at a private Wilton residence sparked a fire Monday morning, according to fire officials.
Pond Road was completely blocked by emergency response vehicles as firefighters in Hazmat suits tried to assess the damage of the fire, which occurred at approximately 10 a.m. at 26 Pond Road.
According to fire officials, there were no injuries as a result of the chemical reaction.
Two chemicals, calcium peroxide and sodium persulfate, reacted with a currently unknown foreign chemical that had leaked into the oil tank to cause the fire, officials said.
Residents were asked to stay in their homes, although Wilton Fire Chief Paul Milositz stressed that they were in no immediate danger.
The fire crews will remain on the scene for some time to test the pH of the soil and liquid in the affected area, fire officials said, and then they will need to contain the foreign chemical and transport it to a safe location.

Fire at a giant Stevenage pharmaceutical company has been contained by staff.
The alarm was raised shortly before 11am as fire broke out in a chemical lab at GlaxoSmithKline on Gunnels Wood Road.
Fire crews were dispatched to the scene and found the blaze out on arrival after onsite personnel used a chemical protection unit to extinguish it.
The cause was accidental, Herts Fire Service said.

Three discarded flashlights-turned-bombs have exploded in the past month in the Phoenix area, injuring five people and prompting police to warn the public about the potential danger of discarded flashlights.
Sources tell ABC News they fear that whoever is making the devices will eventually increase the power of the improvised bombs, and someone might die.
Janelle McKee was at a Glendale, Ariz., strip mall May 13 when she noticed a yellow flashlight sitting by a palm tree. She picked it up, and when she turned it on, it exploded.
"It sounded like a shotgun, big loud boom," McKee said, adding, "I definitely won't be picking anything up off the ground anytime soon."
A day later, a landscaper found a flashlight in a ditch and he, too, turned it on. The device injured two people when it exploded.

DUNEDIN - Mease Dunedin Hospital was evacuated Sunday night after a homeless man covered in unknown chemicals walked inside, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
The man reportedly came straight into the emergency room with the unknown chemical, affecting several employees.

FLORAL PARK CHEMICAL BURNS AT SWIMMING POOL

Johnson City, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Emergency Crews responded to 200 Floral Avenue in Johnson City for reports of victims suffering from chemical burns at the Floral Park Pool.
That chemical was Chlorine, and according to the park supervisor, the levels simply got too high.

Chlorine levels were checked earlier Sunday morning and it was discovered that more needed to be added to stay within regulation.
What the park doesn't know is why the levels went higher than planned.
"Right now with all the equipment that we have, we as a village and Health Department are investigating the source of how that happened," said Park Supervisor, Eric Putman.
The park reported three known children that were affected by the burns. Symptoms were a red rash and burning eyes.

WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) -- Fire crews were called to a fire at a medical waste disposal company in Woonsocket Saturday afternoon.
Fire officials tell Eyewitness News that they were called to 369 Park East Drive for a HAZMAT incident at Stericycle.
According to the company's website, Stericycle handles medical waste disposal, sharps disposal management, hazardous waste disposal, medical device returns, and other disposals. The building is located in an industrial park in Woonsocket that's also home to the CVS headquarters.
Police tell us that a fire was started because of a clogged filter in one of the machines. The smoke from that fire released bacteria into the air and everyone had to be evacuated from the building.
Hazmat crews had to manually ventilate the building and the fire was burned out on its own.
It took over five ours to clear the scene because of the nature of the company's business.

A major fire broke out in the garbage dumping yard at Pallikaranai on Saturday throwing vehicular traffic off gear on Velachery Main Road and adjoining areas for many hours. Residents near the dumping yard moved to other locations as they suffered breathing problems.
Chennai Corporation sources said the fire in the 15-acre dumping yard started around 2 a.m. on Saturday and quickly spread to the huge pile of garbage, including plastic, paper and chemical wastes.
By daybreak, thick white smoke started billowing from the burning waste and engulfed adjoining areas of Mylai Balaji Nagar, Ram Nagar and Sadasivan Nagar. Some residents were confined to their houses while others left the area after they experienced difficulty in breathing and severe irritation in the eyes.

GRAND CHUTE A chemical spill from a semi-trailer on U.S. 41 northbound just north of W. Prospect Avenue/County BB about 9 a.m. Saturday caused lane restrictions and the closure of a few golf holes at Butte des Morts Country Club as a precautionary measure.
The Northeast Regional Hazardous Materials Response Team, consisting of members of the Appleton and Oshkosh fire departments, was called to the scene when a semi-trailer that had been leaking while driving 41 northbound since Oshkosh, stopped on 41 just west of the golf course.
Jesse Pickett, a fire prevention specialist with Grand Chute Fire Department, said the leak was determined to be methyl pyrrolidinone, a combustible liquid that is also an irritant. It was in a plastic container inside the second of two trailers being hauled by the UPS Freight semi-trailer identified as a Motor Cargo trailer. Pickett said about 200 gallons spilled or roughly two-thirds of the plastic container.

One person was killed and three others were seriously injured in a blast at a suspected clandestine drug laboratory in the northwestern Mexican city of Culiacan, military spokespersons said.
Four people were doing welding work inside the warehouse when an ammonia tank explosion caused the roof and walls of the building to cave in, they said.
A man identified as Juan Ramon Beltran Beltran was killed in Friday's explosion and the injured suffered severe burns, the spokespersons said.
Military personnel found flasks, lab reactors and chemical products at the scene, leading them to suspect a synthetic drug lab was housed inside, the commander of the 9th Military Zone, Gen. Marco Antonio Covarrubias, said.
A sign on the building's facade said the warehouse sold construction material.
