Karalyn,

The University of Arizona Emergency Medicine Research Center sposnsors various courses that might be of interest.  The main program is the Advanced HAZMAT Life Suooprt course (AHLS) which consists of 2 8-hour day's training (Provider Training) and has available an additional 6-hour day course that leads to  Instructor verification.  Thse courses focus on the medical response to HAZMAT emergencies rather than the purely chemical aspects.  This might exceed your needs.

There is also a 4-hour on-line course available In Basic HAZMAT Response which might be a cost-effective way to meet your training needs.  In addition, there are 4-hour short courses available that concern Toxic Terrorism and the medicals aspects of corrosive chemical exposures and injuries..

You can access all the information at:
www.ahls.org

For disclosure purposes, I am an Advanced HAZMAT Provider and Instructor and a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee and a Research Affiliate member of the UAEMRC.  I do not receive funding unless I actually teach in a course and then  as Instructors we are asked to only request travel expenses and perhaps a modest stipend.

There are any number of other programs available, but these are the ones I am most familiar with.

My department chair wants to have a training that specifically addresses first aid for chemical exposures.  Does anyone know of someone who might be certified/qualified to come and lead such a training?

Thanks,
