No one was injured in an explosion that started a fire at a New Braunfels cement plant early Tuesday, officials said.
The explosion occurred around just before 2:40 a.m. at the CEMEX plant in the 2500 block of Wald Road, according to the New Braunfels Fire Department. The four-hour fire was contained to a set of coal bins in a coal silo at the plant.

he state Department of Environmental Protection was continuing its investigation of the second spill of condensate fluids in three months at a Chevron-Appalachia Marcellus Shale gas well operation in Robinson, Washington County.
John Poister, a DEP spokesman, said Sunday that the spilled condensate -- a mixture of liquid hydrocarbons or "wet gases" and drilling fluids -- was discovered Thursday by a township employee inspecting a nearby facility that separates the fluids from the natural gas. The spilled liquid had run into Bigger Run Creek, a tributary of Raccoon Creek. He had no information about whether fish or aquatic life were killed, but cleanup crews placed absorbent material in the creek on Friday.

BLAZE PUT OUT AT MERCER COUNTY MUNITIONS PLANT

JAMESTOWN, Pa. -- A fire at a munitions plant in northwestern Mercer County was extinguished in about an hour on Monday afternoon.
No one was injured in the blaze, at Combined Systems Inc., which makes tear gas and grenades.
Firefighters from more than seven companies, including those in Crawford County, responded, WYTV-TV of Youngstown, Ohio, reported. It said the plant evacuated all 200 of its employees for the day.
Officials were investigating the cause of the fire, the second at Combined Systems since November. A spark from a machine caused that blaze, which was in a different building than Monday's fire, officials said.
No one was injured in the November fire, which at the time was the third to occur at Combined Systems.

A Feb. 17 multi-alarm fire at Vining Oil in Jamestown, N.D., caused an estimated $1 million in damage and losses.
The mid-morning fire completely engulfed warehouse-type structure that housed "several" 55-gallon barrels of oil, some 600-700 medium truck tires and two tractors.
The fire completely destroyed the building and caused damage to adjacent businesses. Some nearby hotels had to evacuate guests due to the thick black smoke from the fire that hovered over the area.

A fire at the largest oil refinery in Washington State took about 90 minutes to put out, fire officials said.
The blaze at BP's Cherry Point refinery Friday afternoon caused no serious injuries, The Seattle Times reported.
The refinery in Whatcom County on the Canadian border north of Seattle is the third largest on the West Coast. BP spokesman Scott Dean said production continued during the blaze, although the fire slowed operations.

Panama City Beach Police arrested a man Tuesday in connection with the explosion of a meth lab Sunday night in a Laketown Wharf condominium.
Jeffery Stewart Ackiss, 44, faces charges of manufacturing meth, possession of meth and arson of an occupied dwelling.
Police say Ackiss became the lead suspect during their initial investigation of the fire. They found him Tuesday at a friend's home in Panama City Beach.
Police said Ackiss had severe burns to his arms and feet, apparently from the explosion.

EVERY state will soon be equipped with a Hazmat truck. Fire and Rescue Department director-general Datuk Wan Mohd Nor Ibrahim said this was because of the rising number of accidents involving hazardous materials and chemicals in the country last year.

WHITE COUNTY, Ark. (KTHV) - Hazmat crews in White County are working to clean up a spill from a overturned tanker.
Deputies say that just after 9:30 Tuesday night a tanker truck carrying 3,000 gallons of hydrochloric acid turned over at the intersection of Shilo and Peanut Ridge roads.
Corporal Steve Hernandez with the White County Sherrif's Department told Today's THV that only 100 gallons spilled.

A 14-YEAR-OLD boy has serious burns after larking about with chemicals which exploded in an empty Moura building on Tuesday.
The youth received burns to 30% of his body after he and other youngsters broke into the Moura Memorial Hall in Bell St, trashed it and tried to set it on fire.
A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the group entered the building and was playing with chemicals before leaving the premises just before midday after the explosion.

A hazardous materials emergency was called Monday afternoon after city workers came across three freshly dumped piles of a highly combustible, carcinogenic substance in the Strawberry Creek subdivision.
Kenosha Fire Department Battalion Chief Matt Haerter said Kenosha Water Utility workers called firefighters shortly after 3 p.m. when they spotted a white, powdery substance mounded in three piles, each about 3 feet square and 1.5 feet high, well into an area of unbuilt lots in the 14000 block of 66th Street.
Haerter said the utility crew has been doing soil borings for several weeks in the area and didn't notice the piles there last week.
"It certainly was quite fresh. It showed no effects of weathering or exposure to the environment," he said.
Because the nature of the substance was unknown, Haerter alerted Wisconsin Emergency Management, the Department of Natural Resources, the city Public Works Department and the Racine Fire Department Hazardous Materials Team.
The material, identified only as a chemical product used in rubber manufacturing and industrial fungicides, is known to have carcinogenic and highly combustible effects, according to Haerter.
He said Hazmat personnel used specialized equipment to pack the chemical into plastic drums. Surrounding soil that came into contact with it was removed by crews.
"After careful analysis and further investigation, the surrounding soil and pavement was diluted with a large quantity of water, rendering any remaining residue completely inert and safe for the public," Haerter said.
He declined to identify the chemical publicly due to the ongoing investigation.

ONE lane of the Pacific Highway near Port Macquarie was closed for more than six hours following a two-truck accident this morning.
Police re-opened the south-bound lane shortly before 3pm.
Some 450 litres of diesel leaked onto the roadway and an embankment after the 8.30am crash near Houston Mitchell Drive.
Authorities first rushed to the scene after reports a tanker had overturned and split, threatening to leak chemicals into a nearby drainway at Lake Innes.
But the load was, in fact, raw sugar.

PANAMA CITY BEACH Ñ The Panama City Beach Police Department is investigating a meth lab that sparked a fire at the Lake Town Wharf condominium, police wrote in a news release.
The fire set off the sprinkler system and caused several thousand dollars in damage, officials said. Investigators found several chemicals associated with the production of meth and "finished methamphetamine product," the news release stated.
Chief Drew Whitman said the fire was caused by an a "shake and bake" meth lab that exploded. In a "shake and bake" lab, meth makers place all the ingredients into a small plastic container and shake them. The flammable mixture then creates meth but also sometimes blows up.
Whitman said officers are trying to track down the suspects who left the condo when the sprinklers went off. A security guard discovered the flooded room about an hour later, Whitman said.

PORTLAND, Ore. - A Swan Island worker died Sunday after he fell into a tank that was full of a hazardous chemical, fire and rescue officials said.
A 57-year-old man working on a barge fell into the tank full of a chemical called lignin amine, according to Lt. Rich Tyler with Portland Fire and Rescue. Lignin is a toxic, corrosive chemical derived from wood and used in agriculture.
Fire and rescue responded to the scene at 10:10 a.m.
The tank is about 40 feet long, 50 feet wide and 20 feet deep, Tyler said. Rescuers used a camera to confirm the man was inside. The oxygen levels were so little that it would cause someone to pass out within one minute and died soon after, Tyler said.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- An oil-contaminated water spill in east Harris County on Sunday left crews trying to clean up the mess and figure out what happened.
Highlands volunteer firefighters went to a Highlands-area flood canal around 10:15am Sunday after receiving calls about an oily residue in the water.
Firefighters then found a leak coming from the ZXP Technologies facility in the 400 block of East Wallisville.
According to officials, ZXP Technologies is a lubricant mixing and packaging facility.

LANZHOU - A chemical worker died in a tank truck explosion in Northwest China's Gansu province Monday morning, local authorities said.
The tank trailer carrying 58 cubic meters of liquefied petroleum gas exploded near an LPG station in Xigu district in the provincial capital Lanzhou at around 9 am, the city's safety administration said in a press release.
It said the blast, which occurred during nitrogen replacement, broken the tank into pieces, shattered several windows and toppled a fencing at the gas station.
The victim was not identified.
