At McGill ALL our PI’s are faculty members but not all faculty members are PI’s. Some of our faculty members just teach, though that sort of thing is frowned upon since we are a research-intensive university.;-)

For those of you in academic settings, particularly in major research institutions –
Are there documented cases of a person being a “PI” and NOT being a faculty member. That is, a “research professor” is still a faculty member. Asked another way, is the wording
“faculty and Principal Investigators” redundant?
