Before the tingle sets in, remember that these in vitro short tests are cell-base assays, assays using lower organisms like worms and fish, etc. They are extremely limited. For example, a chemical might show no evidence of being a carcinogen when a cellline is used. Yet this same chemical may metabolize in the human gutor through one of many metabolic pathways to produce a potent carcinogen.
I'd rather see the results of these tests than the big fat nothing that is known about these chemicals now. But I know we will see a chemical industry PR campaign to convince the public that these cheap fast tests are all that is needed. They have even embraced the animal activists for the purposes of this issue. The same industries that have demonstratedover the years that they don't give a damn if our workers die are now all dewy-eyed about the little white critters. Sheesh.
