Industrial Hygienist   (EHS Professional)

The primary focus of this position will be to develop or participate in the development or refinement of industrial hygiene programs, conduct industrial hygiene audits, inspections, hazard reviews, health hazard training, edit, revise, develop health and safety design guidelines, and to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, recommendations for improvement of workplace safety conditions.  This employee will be part of an industrial hygiene team dedicated to the recognition, identification, and control of chemical and physical agents at NC State University.  These activities, aimed at eliminating conditions which may adversely effect worker or student health, or may violate OSHA regulations, will be conducted principally at the main campus of NC State University in Raleigh, NC yet may include infrequent visits to NC State property located throughout the state of North Carolina.  This employee will have the capability to review processes and equipment to identi!
fy health hazards and related safety hazards, with minimal assistance.  Primary responsibilities include participation in laboratory and non laboratory health programs.  Program leadership will also be required for the revision/update/establishment of standards and guidelines for proper building design and maintenance practices, and procedures.  Assistance, as needed, with the lab and non-laboratory exposure assessment programs, investigation of indoor air quality concerns, infrequent emergency response to chemical incidents, and monitoring and documentation of environmental exposures to specific hazardous agents, including review and guidance to laboratory, engineering and Facilities maintenance staff on the proper selection and use of engineering controls and protective equipment.

This position requires an experienced health and safety professional who can participate in program development / implementation and can conduct health hazard assessments and investigations in an extremely large, diverse, and highly technical environment.  The incumbent should be capable of functioning effectively on matters of routine exposure assessment, hazard reviews, health and safety inspections, including air sampling techniques with minimal supervision due to previous experience and training.  A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both written and verbal correspondence is also required.

8:00 A.M. - 5 P.M. Monday through Friday

This position reports to the Manager of Occupational Health at the Environmental Health and Safety Center.

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to provide ongoing support of the university stormwater management program, environmental compliance tracking programs, and university environmental management system.  The successful candidate will be able to conduct inspections, provide training, edit, revise, develop environmental procedures, and communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. These activities will be conducted primarily at the main campus of NC State University in Raleigh, NC yet may include infrequent visits to NC State property located throughout the state of North Carolina.  The ability to provide hands on response to infrequent emergency response to chemical releases is included.

This position seeks a team oriented environmental professional who has experience with program development and implementation.  University experience is preferred but not required.
