Your disposal will undoubtedly be in the form of a LabPack, as Dr. Niemi mentions. You can put your waste in a suitable container for accumulation that may, or may not, be DOT approved. Your LabPack service provider will ultimately put that container in a DOT approved container. Give them a call and ask what the most cost-effective container size would be. For instance, they will overpack your glass jug but they might say that they want to put a 2-L jug in a 15-gal overpack while two 1-L bottles might go in a 10-gal. They can also give you some tips on allowable retention times, storage conditions, required training (RCRA, HazCom, DOT, etc.) They can even characterize the material for you and it might turn out that you are overclassifying it. Your LabPack service provider is a valuable resource and they are typically very happy to 'talk trash'.

The container you select for storage and accumulation needs to be chemically compatible with the waste--I'm just tossing out glass as an exampleÉthat, of course, won't work if you have, say, HF acid in it, too. For pyridine waste, the container should not allow that fine aroma to escape because it can alarm people who recognize that smell as a natural gas leak.

It is not clear to me whether you want information on a suitable container for shipping within a labpack or as a separate package. If the latter, simply look up the proper shipping name (pyridine) in 49 CFR and use one of the UN-listed packages permitted (49CFR 173.202 in my obsolete copy). Then go to a supplier of DOT-rated shipping containers and purchase the size and type you prefer (for 2 L it will probably be a combination package consisting of an inner HDPE bottle and outer fiber box).
