We have also gone with the ACS recommendation, working with 24 to
allow pairing, for general and organic labs.  Our labs are set up to
allow for that number, with each pair of organic students having both
table space and a hood while gen chem students share a hood between 2
pair.  I would love to cut organic down but don't have the personnel
to teach it.  Our upper division courses have small enrollments, so
they're no problem.
