Subject: Re: Realm of Duties of University CHO
College and University CHO are responsible for any area on campus tha
t (1)
meets the Lab Standard's definitions of laboratory use and laboratory
scale (and this certainly can include both art and technology areas)
and
(2) any duty assigned (willingly or unwillingly) by the employer and accep
ted by
the CHO.
Many institution do ask the CHO to help manage their compliance with
the
OSHA hazard communication standard. Although it is not part of the
Lab
Standard, it is suddenly part of your job.
LSI did a survey of over 100 CHOs and ask what were their duties as
defined
in their job description. We rank ordered the replies and came up wi
th a
"David Letterman" top 52 list. Participants in the RJG (Russ, Jim an
d
George) course "How to Become a More Effective Chemical Hygiene Officer"
receive
a copy of the survey results in their course notebook.
The course will be offered (as usual) before the ACS Denver and
the
NAOSMM Minneapolis national meetings, and monthly in Natick at our tr
ain
center.
