In addition to Pete’ ;s note below. One thing that we do in our department is that before you hit the send button…… and it is something that has in structions, or key information, have someone else read it to see if it makes sense. Also, the “simplicity” factor is so important. span>

Valerie,
Yes, anyone can become a better writer! Rea ding good writing helps, like the kind you find in the New Yorker or Wall S treet Journal. Check out the National Academies for examples of reports that are well organized and written. One of my favorite books i s “On Writing Well,” by William Zinsser. The second chapter, 8220;Simplicity” has an example of mark up editing. Chapter 16 is 220;Writing on the Job.” Of course, Struck and White’s “T he Elements of Style” is within reach of my keyboard. One tip that works for me is to read a draft out loud.
Hope this helps,
Pete

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Technical Writing
Greetings,
In my field, our final product is a writt en report. Some employees struggle with report writing and never seem to improve. It's a frustrating loss of time and effort. Has anyone had success at improving technical writing classes, seminars, or ot her alternatives? Thanks for your suggestions.
