Firefighters responding to a reported explosion at
Niklor Chemical Co. in Mojave Saturday afternoon found a semi-trailer on
fire at the loading docks.
The fire was extinguished and a Hazmat crew determined
there were several ruptured cylinders in the trailer, but no chemicals
were released, Kern County Fire Capt. Bill Brickey said. It's unclear
what caused the fire, and Niklor representatives said only empty
cylinders and trash receptacles were in the trailer, Brickey
said.
There were no injuries, and Niklor was closed at the
time, Brickey said. Highway 14 was closed for a short while until it was
clear no chemicals had been released.
