I have a DVD in my office, the title of which escapes me right now, and I am off-campus today because of the inclement weather here in Boston. It is designed for the average consumer with a limited understanding of chemistry and science in general. But I will be able to forward the title to you most likely on Thursday. Also, Monona, I would like copies of the data sheets as well since home or household safety is a special interest of mine, and I do teach a course entitled “Consumer Health and Safety” as a science elective (and related course but with a laboratory/workplace emphasis entitled “Chemical Health and Safety”) here at Wentworth Institute of Technology. I do know that in the late 1980’s, a book by the name of “The Healthy Household” and its companion by the same authors,” The Healthy House,” were published. There is also a book by Ben Selinger entitled “Chemistry in the Marketplace,” fifth edition available. Monona is on target about the politics and economics behind certain household products. There is a 20 year old video tape entitled “Risky Business” which examines both the science and economics of genetically engineered plants and food—excellent viewing. Monona, please let me know if you would prefer to fax, email, or snail mail the data sheets, and I will give you contact information—much appreciated if you can.

Home Safety Presentation
That's part
of what I cover in the book Pick Your Poison which will be
released the first week in March. My aim is very different from
those who just cover keeping bleach and ammonia apart, labeling products
carefully, etc. I want householders to understand the political
issues behind product safety regulations and how to do a little research
on their products without being fooled by the hype.
And I'll be
doing a number of presentations around the country on these kinds of
subjects. And some of the data sheets I write on consumer labeling
issues and household paints might be of use. If you'd like copies,
let me know where you want them sent.

I would
like to know if anyone in our group has prepared and give a presentation
on Chemical Safety at Home? If you have sources for information on
this topic, I would appreciate it if you would share this information
with me.
