Monona, if I were them, I would first look toward the pesticide industry to see what they are doing lately. This is based on my assumption that this small but elegant company is also specifying waterborne coatings which of course means they are trying to come up with an alternative to tributyltin maleate.

preservative chemicals for finishes

I got an inquiry from a small but elegant handcrafted
furniture company and replica antique makers that only supplies to the
trade (architects, designers, etc.). They have their own line of
finishes and want to hire a consultant to help select safe preservative
chemicals to extend the shelf life of the finishes. If anyone has
expertise in this area or knows anyone that does, I'll connect them
up.
