Subject: NTP UPDATE: New NTP Data Downloads web page now available
Comments: To: SAFETY

New NTP Data Downloads

Have you ever wanted to combine NTP study data with your research?  With the new NTP Data Downloads web page (http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/go /downloads), you can bring NTP data to your desktop by downloading a few files.

Summary data on all NTP chemicals can be downloaded in a single file. If you would like more detailed data, you can download an individual study type.  Currently, CHO Cell Cytogenesis, Drosophila, Micronucleus, Mouse Lymphoma, Rodent Cytogenetics, and Salmonella study types are the study types available for detailed data downloads.

NTP plans to add files for the Bioassay, Developmental, and Immunology study types. Be the first to learn when new study types and updated data are available by joining the NTP ListServ (http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/go/g etnews). NTP will update the data on a quarterly basis.

Format of NTP Data Downloads
The NTP used Extensible Markup Language (XML) to create these data files.  XML is a free, open standard computer language with a set of rules that encodes documents in "machine readable" format.  The XML files contain the data; schema files show how that data is organized and formatted.

Although you can open and read XML and schema files in a text editor, it is unwieldy to view the downloaded files this way. Typically, bioinformaticians or computer programmers would use these files to bring NTP data into your applications or databases. This allows you to only use the data that you are interested in.

Online Searching Remains Available!
If you have used the NTP Database Search, it is still available at http://ntp-apps.niehs.nih. gov/ntp_tox/. This search allows you to view NTP data on a particular test article or a particular study online.

Notice
The NTP makes no representations and extends no warranties of any kind, either expressed or implied [for the downloadable data or schema]. There are no express or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

The NTP listserv is a service of the NTP Office of Liaison, Policy and Review and NTP's Central Data Management.
