As discussed on my
peroxide web page under "Special Precautions To Take With
Peroxide-Forming Materials", I would test open peroxide formers on a
regular schedule, such as the first day of each month. You need
to make it some kind of routine that is easy to remember. If you
use some sort of calendaring software, such as Apple's iCal, it is easy
to set reminders for such tasks....which reminds me, time to make my
federal tax payments ;-(
For unopened
materials, I'd probably give them up to 3-6 months based on the relative
risk, at which point you have to open the unopened container for
testing. And then it's every month for that container because it
was opened.
Also mentioned on my page is a new
product called Xpell by Xplosafe, which is a color-indicating pellet
which obviates the need for test strips. Of course, you have to
store the material in a clear bottle to take full advantage of
that.

perspective (which I am not), is there a rule of thumb on how long a
chemical that has the potential to form peroxides should be kept once
opened? Unopened? I will be reviewing regs for additional information,
but I am looking for chemists (or others with experience) point of view.
Thanks in advance.
