Subject: Peroxide-forming Chemicals

All,
From a chemists perspective (which I am not), is there a rule of thumb on how long a chemical that has the potential to form peroxides should be kep t once opened? Unopened? I will be reviewing regs for additional information, but I am looking for chemists (or others w ith experience) point of view. Thanks in advance.
