I noticed an article available in the Journal of Chemical Education this week that seems relevant to this weekend's discussion of methylene chloride use. It's entitled "Faculty Perspectives of Undergraduate Chemistry Laboratory: Goals and Obstacles to Success" and discusses the conceptual goals of the class laboratory experience. These findings might help inform the discussion of the balance of using hazardous chemicals and the teaching goals of the class lab.
