Alle Ding' sind Gift, und nichts ohn' Gift; allein die Dosis macht, da=DF ein Ding kein Gift ist. "All things are poison and nothing is without poison, only the dose permits something not to be poisonous." Or, more commonly "The dose makes the poison." Paracelcus I must agree with Ernest. MC and many other "toxic" substances can be s afely conducted by students using proper PPE and equipment (ventilation, etc). Having worked in an industry which was one of the top 3 or 4 use rs of methylene chloride (MC) we found than during the 20 or so year his tory of MC use the incident of cancer is less than the general public. This was also found to be true with the photographic manufacturing indus try. Another substance critical to my industry is a known respiratory s ensitizer yet in a recent study of occupation asthma in the industry ove r the last 20+ years found a lower incidence of asthma than in the gener al population. The positive cancer study in rats exposed to MC found a metabolic pathway that exists in rats but not humans or the other test a nimals which produced the actual carcinogen. This was ignored when the notation was placed on MC. Is anyone going to stop synthesizing aspirin because of its relation to Reye's Syndrome? Who will stop filling their car with gasoline (10 - 15 % benzene)? Those deep fried mushrooms will surely do you in (nitrosami nes and many carcinogens).
