Questions  regarding eye exposures to harmful radiation, such as this question, require answers from an expert.  Ask your local opthalm ologist, NOT oculist, for his/her opinion--and be sure to also ask for the basis of their opinion.
 
Clearly, although incorporating a slit reduces the dose, the rules for toxins "The size of the dose determines the degree of harm"  (as my f riend and colleague, Theophrastus Bombastus vonHohenheim, used to say) radi ation follows a different "dose/harm caused" set of rules.
