I envy all of you in private industry that can require & have an enforcement procedure to get employees to attend training. At a university - it won't happen that way! (lots of other phrases went thru my head, but none suitable for this email ;]). Last summer we began putting our EH&S classes on line using Blackboard. Its the course distribution system that's used for the regular college classes (so it was free for us to use). We now have 10 classes on line & have trained 1000 people this way since August 2009. We are continuing "live" training too, but I'm sure not all of these 1000 people would have attended those classes (our live class participation had been steadily declining). While we're sure not everyone is still getting their safety training, we know that lots more have gotten it thru this method than if we didn't have the online classes. And, before you ask - you need a university ID to access the system. Each class has a quiz that must be passed before the "student" gets credit (our live classes do not have quizzes). If any of you are pursuing this idea, I'd be happy to answer your questions.
