I can't speak about what our correspondent does for compress ed gas training now, but I can tell you what I provide our new investigators f or training: I have a few PowerPoint slid es covering the actual standards (which, as you know, aren't much), then go on to show the NFPA video Working Safely with Compressed Gases. It covers the contents of CGA Pamphlet P-1. I had an old slide-and-tape set from CGA that covers the same information, but that got tossed with the old AV equipment. CGA has put out a video of the same material, but they don't have it captioned for the hearing impaired, so the state ADA policy prohibited us from purchasing it. (Besides, we're members of NFPA.) I then follow it up with a short quiz fro m the Oklahoma State University. (I try to mix up activities and have the new bies do as much active training as I can come up with.) Later on during the sess ion, which covers all of 1910 Subpart H (yawn!), I show them the CSB video Da ngers of Propylene Cylinders, about the fire at Praxair in St. Louis. Later o n, when the students need comic relief, I show them a home video that one of o ur senior staff made probably 20-25 years ago on acetylene and oxygen. The pro duction values are poor at best, but suffice it to say that the gentleman has a rat her droll sense of humor.
