The EPA’s School Chemical Cleanout Campaign is
designed to help
with this problem. You should check out the SC3 website – www.epa/gov/sc3 which has a great
deal of
information. Some states have funding programs, but with the way state
&
federal budgets are these days, I would be surprised if there are
currently funds
available. However, the EPA SC3 coordinator for EPA region 5, Maryann
Suero (maryann**At_Symbol_Here**epa.gov)
-
(312) 886-9077 – may be able to help you find a local
sponsor/corporate partner
willing to work on funding.
The ACS is also actively involved in this program, and we can also look for ACS members willing to help either with managing the inventory or the actual disposal process. If you’re interested in my help, let me know. There are a lot of things that can be done to help reduce the cost of disposal.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Help with high school chemical
clean-up
& nbsp; I’m helping with a workshop for high school chemistry teachers, and several say they have stockrooms containing old, or excess, chemicals which they need to get rid of. I remember some kind of program to help with this, especially for small schools with no funds for a clean-up. However, I don’t remember the particulars. Can someone steer me in the right direction. The schools in questions are in Kentucky and Ohio.
& nbsp; Thanks, for your assistance.
