Good Morning,

I have long taken issue with the use of any media device (ipod, cell phone, dare I even say the radio?) in the laboratory, and not only for all of the good Health and Safety reasons mentioned thus far.

While Health and Safety is a major concern of mine, I work in an analytical service laboratory and I get very concerned about how the quality of work may suffer if there is something to take away the focus from where it should be.  I am in the process of establishing some policies as we are a fairly new laboratory and this is one that will be implemented.  Beyond that, we are sure to acknowledge the personal needs of the employees and the need to take care of some personal business on company time.  While I realize some of it is a bit strict, I have gotten no complaints, and I=92ve not found anyone taking advantage.

Just my 2 cents.

Paul Davis
