Australia: Police find lab in raid
DETECTIVES have dismantled a suspected clandestine drug
laboratory in Coffs Harbour.
They swooped on the Toormina Place apartment on
Wednesday afternoon and seized unlawful apparatus consistent with the
manufacture of drugs.
Coffs/Clarence crime manager, Detective Inspector
Cameron Lindsay, said it appeared the lab, which was set up on a table,
had not yet been in operation.
Police are now testing the
apparatus - which includes prohibited articles such as chemical
condensers - as part of their ongoing investigation.

India: Fire, gas leak at unit claims

ANKLESHWAR: A fire broke out at Bayer Crop Science plant at
Ankleshwar on Thursday which led to leakage of marcaptane and phosphorus
tri-chloride gases and death of plant incharge engineer Vaibhav Saxena,
27. The odour of the gases were felt by the people in the nearby
areas.
According to a release by the leading agro chemical
manufacturing company, "The fire was brought under control within 25
minutes. There was minimal impact in the rest of the plant area and
neighbourhood."
Philippines: 2 hurt in Pasig chemical blast
MANILA,
Philippines - Two men were injured when an explosion occurred in a
chemical factory in Pasig City Thursday, fire authorities
said.
An explosion and ensuing fire was reported at 9:15
a.m. at the Chemphil compound along Elesco Road in Barangay (village)
Kalawaan, said the city=92s Bureau of Fire.
Authorities identified the injured as Roberto Alonso and
Rodrigo Mendoza, both employees of CAWC Corp., the compound=92s current
occupant.

Greenville
GREENVILLE, Miss. (AP) - The
state fire marshal's office will join the investigation into a fire in a
building at a herbicide plant in Greenville.
WABG-TV
reports that the fire broke out about 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Platte
Chemical Co. after what authorities say was a small
explosion.
A nearby neighborhood was evacuated for a short time
while Greenville firefighters put out the blaze. There were no reported
injuries.
Platte Chemical produces insecticides, herbicides and
fungicides for agriculture use.
Riverside Volunteer Fire
Department Chief Billy Schultz says the fire was put out in about 30
minutes.
Canada: Five Students Injured after
Science Experiment Goes bad at Toronto School - JEMS.com TORONTO - A science lab experiment gone wrong at a
Toronto-area high school sent several students to hospital Wednesday
afternoon, launching an investigation by the Ministry of Labour.
Peel
region police said emergency crews were called to St. Marcellinus
Catholic Secondary School in Mississauga at about 2:30 p.m., after a
minor chemical experiment exploded.
Five
students were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries, said
a Peel region ambulance official.
The
official did not know the nature of the injuries.
UK: Worker injured in Millennium Chemicals explosion is named as
Paul Doyley.
THE
Immingham father critically injured in an explosion at a chemical plant
has been named.
Paul Doyley is receiving treatment at Pinderfields
General Hospital, in Wakefield, a specialist burns hospital, following
the incident at Millennium Inorganic Chemicals, Stallingborough, in the
early hours of Friday morning.
A spokesperson for the
hospital confirmed Mr Doyley remained in a critical
condition.
As reported, a pressurised container was thought to
have ruptured, releasing Titanium Tetrachloride (TiCl4) liquid and fumes
at about 12.10am.
