It’s great to hear these stories from the past- I, too, recall extremely cold days at UMass when the locks o n my ’68 Mustang would freeze- solution? Squirt acetone in the lock chamber, followed by ignition- instant access!
So is it worrisome that old(er) chemis ts did such crazy things, and now we preach the gospel of Chemical Health & ; Safety?

I remember the blue flames also, but coming out of a 1970 or so VW Bug! Lost my facial ha ir (including eyebrows) once there!
