I would also agree, although I
think that adequate eye protection might be an issue for the EC to
address. We all always come up with "comfort-versus-safety issues,
but the issue is always safety versus "Gee Whiz, Cap'n Billy, my
mask don't fit well and irritates my face skin, so I don't
wear it". I wonder about D-CHAS outreach to the ISEA
(International Safety Equipment Association; I am the voting member for
a client and do have some lines in). There is a
whole sub-group at ISEA on eye protection. I might be
able to raise the issue.
And, Yes, I would sign such a
letter. In the worst of times, when I did various chemical
decontamination experiments, I always wore appropriate safety
goggles.

I propose that the people on
this list serve, since they are members of the division and possibly the
ACS, each participate in a letter writing campaign to have the editors
of C&EN carefully review the content for health and safety
concerns.
Cool. But lets work together on one
statement so we each don't have to take time from our busy schedules to
compose a letter. Working together, each doing a little piece,
putting in into a single format so we can each send one will get better
participation, too.
