"Oxygen," by Nick Lane, Oxford Press gives a geological-time accounting of how variable oxygen levels affected (and were caused by) various planetary occurrances. I found it quite engaging........ J. One that comes to mind is how when someone suggested HCN as a fuel, the engineers screamed. This is despite the fact that they were using stuff that was more toxic that that all the time.
