ANSI in
conjunction with
the International Safety Equipment Association, has just issued the
update of
ANSI/ISEA Z358.1-2009, "American National Standard for Emergency Eyewash
and
Shower Equipment". Among the changes is a definition of flusing
fluid,
which states
"Potable
water,
preserved water, preserved buffered saline solution or other medically
acceptable solution manufactured and labeled in accordance with
applicable
government regulations."
As I read
this, a
solution such as Diphoterine(TM) (for all chemical contaminations except
HF and
related) or Hexafluorine(TM) (for HF related) can be used if your
company's
medical consultant authorizes it. See www.prevor.com for more
information
I find this
a long
needed and very helpful change.
(In the
interests of
full disclosure, my firm is retained by Prevor) That said, if I
get nitric
acid on me, I am grabbing the Diphoterine.
