My familiarity with this term:
 < /DIV>
Refers to thin gs that are liquid at or near room temperature but have a low boiling point and expand to a gas at slightly elevated temperatures - hence causing the build-up of press ure when stored in a sealed container.
 < /DIV>
Over simplifie d perhaps, but you get the idea.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Pressure-Generating Liquid

Last week one of our investigators threw me a curve ball. She had an inquiry from an employer or consultant regarding "pressure-generating liqui ds". The term is new to me. I have a mental picture based on the words in the ph rase which may or may not be accurate. The only reference I have found so far re gards the old-fashioned soda acid and self-generating foam water-type extinguishe rs in the federal portable fire extinguishers standard. I have searched the feder al OSHA, NIOSH and ACS Web sites with no luck. Anyone familiar with such chemi cals? Thank you.
