From: Lee.Latimer**At_Symbol_Here**ELAN.COM Re: [DCHAS-L] Glove use in academic teaching labs > From an industrial standpoint (i.e. employers), you will help us tremendously if those in education require gloves for all lab operations short of keyboards. This is especially true of any operation involving the handling or transfer of "pure" chemicals or solutions. Disposable gloves are not the only variety available if cost is an issue. Reusable gloves are slightly thicker (i.e. safer), have longer coverage up from the hand (pilots gloves style) and can be a student borne lab cost if you state budget is a mess. Please also teach them to use lab coats and to not put gloved hands on door handles (use inside of lab coat grasped from outside). Presumably, safety glasses are required upon entering a lab. Thanks, Lee == From: "Steehler, Gail"Date: August 10, 2009 2:31:12 PM EDT Subject: FW: Glove use in academic teaching labs We provide nitrile gloves in all teaching laboratories. We require use for just a couple of experiments, but some students and faculty wear them routinely. We have had students with latex allergies, so we stopped supplying latex. Our experiments are low volume and low hazard. Gail Steehler
