Rather than measuring safety results, measure their participation in
programs. For example, completion of required Safety training or lab
inspections or attendance at required safety meetings. But also allow
for recognition of special efforts such as someone taking the initiative
to correct a problem or raise awareness about something or volunteering
to be on an emergency response team. It recognizes performance that they
have some control over, is measurable and won't discourage incident
reporting.

Hi Suzanne and All,
I would be interested in this too especially for the
university/college
setting. Currently we have no component of our faculty evaluations
related to safety but are considering recommending one in order to
improve accountability and concern for duty of care.
