It shocked me that so many experienced bench analysts ignored safety rules related to dress, protective eye wear and working alone in the lab. Consequently, over a period of one year, I had to terminate five people for repeated violations of company safety policies. I was required to audit the facilities under my management every week for safety compliance, inspect daily and report the results in writing to the General Manager bi-weekly. Apparently, training alone isn't enough to ensure that staff takes the rules seriously.
