Hi Carole -
ChemIDplus Advanced has about as much info in one place as you can
find.
http://chem.sis.nlm.nih.gov/chemidplus/ProxyServlet?objectHandle=DBMaint&actionHandle=default&nextPage=jsp/chemidheavy/ResultScreen.jsp&ROW_NUM=0&TXTSUPERLISTID=026628228
In particular - the Hazardous Substance Data Base (HSDB) Full Record is
very informative.

Apparently from reading the section on "Human Toxicity Excerpts" on the HSDB site, quite a few chemists have inadvertently ingested sodium azide. Why they were drinking or eating in the lab is a whole other subject. :-)
This chemical is on the EPA (US) Pcode list. (containers requires triple rinsing before being thrown away or placed in glass waste, etc.). Sodium azide is also on the "Chemicals of Interest" list (theft is the concern) from our Department of Homeland Security. I have no idea about Canada for these regulations.
Hope you find something useful,
Sammye

Good day everyone,
One of our researcher suddenly wants to use sodium azide in a chemical reaction. I’m aware of the risks associated with that chemical, but never used it as a chemist. If you have any “Thing to do or not do” experience or knowledge to share with us, we are very interested in reading them.
I read in the MSDS that the evacuation equipment had to be explosion-proof. I can understand why, but is it the case in your institutions?
Thanking you in advance for your responses!
Carole
