Go to www.chemed.org to learn about their offerings. I know they have kits available that give good experiment ideas as well as classroom activities. ------Original Message------ From: Hadden Susan [PRDUS] To: DCHAS-L**At_Symbol_Here**LIST.UVM.EDU Subject: [DCHAS-L] Reaction info for students Sent: Jan 16, 2009 9:13 AM A friend who teaches 8th grade science has a project for her students descr ibed below. She's looking for some reference materials for them. Any sugges tions would be appreciated. You can respond to me and I'll forward them to her. My students have just started the chemistry unit. There is a final project due at the end of the unit where the students have to find a real world ex ample of a chemical reaction. However, we're only learning about 4 types of reactions (synthesis, decomposition, single replacement, double replacemen t); so they are slightly limited. Ultimately, the students will present the ir reaction and an example the significance of the reaction in the real wor ld, along with a bunch of other info. The first deadline that the students have is to find a reaction in the real world and know what type of reaction it is. Being that I teach 8th graders, I wanted to provide them with some resources that could help them find applications of reactions. Do you know of any good website, books, or other resources that I could provide them wi th? Any suggestions you may have will be extremely helpful!
