I would like to add, just because you think you "did not have chicken
pox" does not mean you will not have shingles. My dad "never had
chicken pox" but had a horrendous case of shingles that gave him pain
for months on end. I was sure I never had chicken pox, either, and
after many scares being exposed to it, finally went and had a titer
done, and sure enough, I had had it at some point in time, probably a
subclinical case when I was one or two years old that someone thought
was "just a pimple" or diaper rash. I never forget having to play
with all the kids who had it, trying to "get it over with" as a child.

Since I had a pretty good titer in middle age, I may or may not decide
to be revaccinated to prevent shingles. Perhaps I will ask for
another titer at age 60. I've known many people who have had
shingles, and even those who received antiviral treatment promptly
have suffered varying degrees of debilitation from it.
