The correlation between the NFPA 704 Flammability Hazard Rating and the NFPA 30 flammable/combustible liquid Class designation can be found in NFPA 704, Standard System for the Identification of the Hazards of Materials for Emergency Response.

Class IA liquids are NFPA 704 Flammability Rating 4.
Classes IB and IC liquids are NFPA 704 Flammability Rating 3.
Classes II and IIIA liquids are NFPA 704 Flammability Rating 2.
Class IIIB liquids are NFPA 704 Flammability Rating 1.

You can view (but cannot copy) NFPA 704 by going to the following web page:

http://www.nfpa.org/aboutthecodes/list_of_codes_and_standards.asp

Scroll down to and select the desired document. Scroll to the bottom of the next screen and select "Preview this document". Follow the instructions. Because the "on-line" documents are located on an external server, expect system loading and response to take some time.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] flammability class vs NFPA number

Can anyone tell me how the number assigned in the NFPA diamond for
flammability corralates (if it does) with the flammability class of the solvent?
That is, are all "4"s on the diamond solvents that are in Class IA & IB, etc. I
do not have the code books, and so far have not been able to locate this info
on the web.

Thanks in advance for any wisdom,
Sammye
