RE:  Grounding of flammable liquids storage cabinets.

NFPA 30, Flammable and Combustible Liquids Code, does not require a flammable liquids storage cabinet to be grounded.  NFPA 30 also, by the way, doesn't require the cabinet to be ventilated, either.

If a cabinet has a grounding point, it's for the convenience of the user.  For example, the user might want to dispense from containers without taking them out of the cabinet.  Having the ground screw as part of the cabinet makes this easy:  the cabinet has a readily accessible point to attach a ground wire and the same point can be used for bonding wires for the containers being dispensed from and to.

NFPA 70®, National Electrical Code®, is not relevant to this discussion.  It has no information on grounding for purposes of control of static electricity.

Does anyone know if any regulatory agency (federal, local or state) that
would mandate that flammable cabinets be grounded if flammable liquids
are just being stored in them and are not being dispensed while being
housed in the cabinet?  I have checked the OSHA website and grounding is
only necessary if you are dispensing Class I flammable liquids and my
search of the internet has referenced NFPA 70 and NFPA 30 but I do not
have copies of those publications.
