Title 	Environmental Safety Technician

Job Overview 	Implement the hazardous waste management program and  
promote waste minimization for UVM, maintaining compliance with OSHA,  
EPA and DOT regulations. Perform waste inventory, tracking and  
handling operations at the Environmental Safety Facility (ESF),  
interact with campus and plan for and provide emergency response to  
hazardous materials incidents on campus.

Typical Functions 	Manage chemical waste stream from pick-up through  
packaging, manifesting and storage. Negotiate and arrange end  
disposal. Schedule and perform chemical and biowaste pick-ups  
throughout campus. Deliver laboratory chemicals as part of UVM's  
Pollution Prevention program.

Maintain database to ensure compliance and tracking of all of UVM's  
hazardous waste from the campus location through storage and  
transportation to the final disposal site, including container  
locations, manifests and final disposal.

Consult with laboratory personnel to improve regulatory compliance  
and provide material handling and regulatory information and  
instruction to the University community

Prepare for and respond to hazardous materials emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications  	Bachelor's degree in laboratory science,  
engineering or environmental field and two years' experience with  
OSHA, EPA and DOT hazardous materials/waste regulations required.  
Valid Vermont driver's license and Commercial Driver's license (CDL)  
with hazardous materials endorsement or ability to obtain, and  
drivers' check required. Initial and continued employment dependent  
on satisfactory results of alcohol and drug testing. Computer  
proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, email and database  
applications required. Effective communication skills required. This  
position will require a post-offer, pre-employment (POPE)physical  
that will include requirements for wearing respirator and operating a  
commercial vehicle. This position will also require a POPE background  
check for CDL with hazardous materials endorsement.  Commitment to  
diversity and inclusion required.

FY '08 Pay Band:  	31,000 - 58,900
