Power Plant EHS Officer-Manager 5 Yale University Office of Environmental Health and Safety 27 August 2007 Yale University is seeking a Power Plant EHS Officer for its Office of Environmental Health and Safety. The position is responsible for the development and maintenance of compliance programs related to Yale's power plants, as well as their auxiliary operations including boilers, turbines, duct burners and emergency generators. This position is responsible for activities related to our permits under Title V, New Source Review and for water discharges. This position also provides on-site support and consultation for health and safety. Yale University operates two power plants: a cogeneration facility that can supply 18 megawatts of electricity, 340,000 pounds per hour of steam and 14,600 tons of chilled water to the central campus; and a thermal energy facility that can supply 350,000 pounds per hour of steam and 19,900 tons of chilled water to the medial campus. This position reports to the Director of OEHS and works closely with the Power Plant Managers as well as the Utilities Director. This position is supported by OEHS clerical staff, the Environmental Services Section, and the Occupational Health and Safety Section (for industrial hygiene, physical safety and emergency response). Professional Qualifications Required: Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental sciences or related field, as well as seven years of progressively responsible experience dealing with advanced and complex environmental compliance programs, such as those relating to power plants. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in environmental science and engineering, including chemistry, measurement technologies and pollution controls. Candidates also need an advanced knowledge of state and federal air and water pollution regulations-particularly new source performance standards, new source review and Title V applicable to power plants. Significant knowledge or experience in health and safety is important. Experience with institutions of higher education, a degree in chemical engineering, and/or a relevant professional certification is preferred. Salary range is $70,000 to $100,000+.
