The University of Colorado at Boulder to Host Regional EH&S Seminar Mark your calendar and plan to attend the upcoming CSHEMA-PRIZIM Regional Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Seminar at the University of Colorado at Boulder (CU-Boulder) in Boulder, Colorado, November 1st - 2nd, 2007. This seminar is designed for anyone with an interest in campus and laboratory health and safety, risk management, or environmental compliance. People from educational institutions or laboratory-based organizations - either small or large - will benefit from attending. Besides, you know you've always wanted to see the Rockies. and Boulder is right up against the foothills and within an hour's drive of Rocky Mountain National Park. The seminar will be held at the Boulder Outlook Hotel, in Boulder, a 45 minute drive from Denver International Airport and accessible by Super Shuttle. The program will include a conference, from 8:30 to 5:00 pm on November 1st on a variety of contemporary topics. The conference will be followed by a morning workshop from 8:00 to Noon on November 2nd focused on how to organize existing programs into a useful environmental management system (EMS) at a college, university, or other laboratory-based organization. You can choose to attend the conference, the workshop, or both. The seminar will highlight effective management approaches for selected EH&S program components and for responding to emerging issues that are impacting higher education across the nation. A featured presenter is Dr. Mark Hoover, from National Institutes of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), who will participate in a roundtable discussion about the latest developments in safety and health procedures and controls for nanomaterials. Other topics will include: * Ensuring emergency communications with key stakeholders * Integrating security into management of hazardous materials * Proper disposal of DEA controlled substances and pharmaceuticals * Planning an engaging Fire Academy to raise awareness of students and staff * Building blocks of biosafety management * Fuel management regulations and an alternative fuels case study The half-day workshop, co-presented by Ms. Leigh Leonard of PRIZIM Inc. and Ms. De'Anne Meeh from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, will focus on how to develop a streamlined, compliance-focused EMS while maximizing synergies with your organization's sustainability and conservation initiatives.
