Listers,
For those that didn't get one of the random calls made by the Department
of Homeland Security to some of the 5,000 entities that submitted
comments on the proposed Appendix A to the Chemical Facility
Anti-Terrorism Standards: I've never gotten a communication from a
Federal agency following up on comments that didn't have a question
about my comments. It seems to me that the bad press on this rule and
chemical list is building and DHS is starting to do damage control. I
didn't actually speak with the person - he got my voice mail - but here
is a truncated version of the message:
" I'm calling in regards to a letter we received
from you a few weeks ago which contained comments on the Chemical
Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards. We're calling some of the people who
submitted comments - we actually received approximately 5,000 comments
overall on Appendix A. And we're in the process of revising Appendix A
as we speak and we just wanted to make some courtesy calls and let
people know we appreciated their comments and give them a status
update... A final revised version should be out in the next few weeks.
We are taking a lot of the concerns that were submitted from across the
country very seriously and we hope everyone is satisfied with the rule
but also it is enough to provide safety for facilities across the
country...
...again we thank you very much for taking the time out to comment on
the regulations, it was very much appreciated."
