The Chemical Health and Safety workshop schedule for the American Chemical Society national meeting in Boston this August 17 and 18 is now available at the Division's web site http://membership.acs.org/c/chas/ In addition to our usual offerings, of special note this meeting is a workshop on CHEMICAL REACTIVITY HAZARDS, Laboratory Scale, Recognition & Control Presented by: Neal Langerman, Ph.D. Chemical reactivity hazards contribute to a significant number of serious incidents in laboratories. This workshop will provide participants with the knowledge and skill to screen processes for potential hazards, recognize when reactive hazards are present, and implement appropriate controls to reduce the risk of an incident associated with run-away chemical reactions. Workshop attendees will review case studies of actual incidents and do screening examples in order to understand the screening and recognition process. Group discussions of control methods will allow participants to share their experiences and to evaluate methods for controlling reactivity risks. This workshop is offered as part of the Chemical Reactivity Hazards Management Alliance, of which the American Chemical Society is a signatory. Because of this there is a special registration price of only $50 for this session.
