Subject: New Conference on NANO-material safety at UW
Date: March 22, 2007 6:27:27 PM EDT

We are planning a conference/work-shop on nano-material safety
issues; best practices in use, manufacture, detection and disposal of
nano-materials of all kinds. This is mostly aimed at academic scale
applications. For more information see
http://www2.fpm.wisc.edu/safety/nano
Come prepared to roll up your sleeves and actively participate in a
workshop designed to focus on health and safety practices that can be
used NOW while research, technology, guidelines and regulations are
being developed.

This workshop will feature a mix of nanotech experts and
practitioners from select universities and government organizations.
Featured speakers include Dr. Andrew Maynard of the Woodrow Wilson
Institute and Dr. Gurumurthy Ramachandran from the University of
Minnesota.

Share your answers to questions such as:
Are engineered nanomaterials handled or created on your campus? How
do you know?

What health and safety precautions do you have in place for working
with nanoscale materials?

What health and safety precautions do others have in place?

How do you manage and dispose of nano-waste?

What is the status of NIOSH’s nano initiative?

These and other questions will be discussed in a workshop designed to
bring together the collective knowledge and experiences of presenters
and attendees.

If your organization has written nanosafety programs or elements of
programs, please consider submitting these prior to the workshop so
that a compilation of current practices can be shared. Call (608)
265-5000 for more details.
