From: regina.cody**At_Symbol_Here**nasa.gov Date: November 9, 2006 5:34:07 PM EST (CA) One of my colleagues has two HPLC (High Precision Liquid Chromatography) instruments in his lab; one is a standard instrument and one is a so called nanoflow UPLC (Ultra Precision Liquid Chromatography) specialized for very sensitive analysis with flow rates of 100 nanoliters (nL) per minute and operating pressures up to 10,000 psi. Sometime ago a Headquarters safety team conducted an inspection and cited these instruments as requiring pressure certification by our center people who do pressure certifications. It appears that neither the Headquarters safety people nor our center certification manager is familiar with liquid chromatography instruments. We need to respond to this finding soon. Does anyone have or know of a risk analysis for pressure on this type of instrumentation? If anyone else has been in this situation, what was your response to the safety finding and how was the situation resolved? Thank you for any help you can give us. Regina Cody Regina J.
