Beth: I apologize for piling on, but I want to add one more piece of information to your understanding of OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.1000. The 400 or so chemicals on the PEL list were NOT selected on the basis of risk. If they have anything in common, it's that those chemicals had high sales volumes in the fifties and sixties when the list was compiled. A few low volume / high risk chemicals, like diborane, are on the list. More of the list is devoted to high-volume, low-risk chemicals, like calcium sulfate.
